The Annual Taste of KCK

Writer: Resurrection Catholic SchoolResurrection Catholic School

We are thrilled to share the success of our 12th annual Taste of KCK fundraising event, held in support of Resurrection Catholic School. The evening was filled with energy, gratitude, and excitement, as we came together to raise essential funds for need-based scholarships, STREAM initiatives, academic programs, classroom support, building improvements, and other day-to-day expenses. This is essential since 99% of our students receive financial support to attend RCS. Resurrection also saw a 15% increase in enrollment for this school year, which has required additional funding for those new students.

A special thank you to the school’s teachers and staff, board members, volunteers, community partners, our supporting parish pastors, and of course the students and families. Your unwavering dedication to our community is truly inspiring. Your time, effort, and generosity make the Taste of KCK possible, and we couldn’t be more grateful for your continued support.

We also want to acknowledge our Masters of Ceremonies, Brian McKiernan and Ana Nubia, who keep the show running without a hitch. Our wonderful speaker, Fr. Mike Hawken, shared stories from his past when he attended St. Peter Cathedral school, and also words of encouragement and advocacy which highlighted the importance of supporting low-income schools like Resurrection and its students. He also introduced our honoree for the night, Lynda Higgins, past principal of Resurrection and inspiration behind the Taste of KCK event. Both of their encouraging words touched the hearts of all who attended.

Also inspiring were the words of Luis Tovar, student speaker for the evening.  He shared about his experience with a nearly fatal brain trauma accident and his family's decision to move their sons to Resurrection Catholic School using the available financial aid to make it possible.  His words were moving and heartfelt.   He is one of the many reasons the funds raised from Taste of KCK are so important.  A recording of all speakers can be found on our Facebook page. https://www.facebook.com/resurrectionschoolKCK/
