Finding Ways to Connect with Students (Even During COVID-19 Summer Months)

Hey y'all, my name is Liz Gonzales and I am a Kindergarten teacher at Resurrection Catholic School. I have been teaching at RCS for 8 years and have loved being a part of this community. If you ever need to find me at school just look for the pirate classroom or listen for the music, you will find me either way!

As a Kindergarten teacher reading is VERY important to me and I'll be honest, I love the fun adventures and silly voices that come with reading stories to my students. With everything that has changed because of recent events, one thing I wanted to make sure was still a constant in my students' lives was hearing stories as often as possible. Thus began my dive into the world of virtual read alouds!

This summer I have been posting weekly virtual read alouds for my students. Each week I post a Summer PJ Party for anyone who wants to join our KinderCrew (I told you pirates!). We get our pajamas on, gather our family (and a few stuffed friends), and read a new story.

While these stories started out as a way to stay connected to my current students, it is something that I can't wait to share with new kindergarteners coming to RCS next school year. These virtual read alouds allow students who are new to our RCS Family get to know me, see me, and feel connected to a place they haven't been before. So whether you are new to RCS, just finished Kindergarten, or are moving up to middle school, all are welcome to join our Summer PJ Party all you need is pjs and a comfy spot to listen to a good book!

Liz has been at Resurrection since 2013. She is a Kindergarten teacher. lgonzales@rcskck.org
