3rd Grade: All About the Church & Liturgical Calendar

By Miss Heather Lindsay, 3rd Grade Teacher at Resurrection

Third graders have been hard at work at Resurrection Catholic School! The overarching goal for 3rd-grade students is to better understand the structure of our Church and why we do what we do.

We have started our school year with an in-depth study of the liturgical calendar. Students are learning about the different seasons of the church year. They have learned the names of each season, the representative color, and the symbols we find present in our churches during each season.

Students were introduced to the names of essential feast days celebrated during each season. Most importantly they have studied the purpose of each season, so as the year progresses, students can start to see what we celebrate as a Church family. They are learning how the seasons flow together in a beautiful dance of grace and redemption.

After learning about each season, students worked in groups to create representative posters for each season. These posters will hang in our classroom and rotate as the seasons change. This visual will always remind students of God’s plan for our world and that, “to every thing there is a season, and a time to every purpose under the heaven (Ecclesiastes 3:1).”
